The group ready to leave Boppard – a really great bunch of guests made for a fantastic tour – and no apologies for the number of photos which follow!

*Our thanks yet again to John and Jen for such an awesome holiday. Yet another brilliant tour which has given us thrills, sights and experiences to treasure. It was great to meet old friends and new. A real pleasure to share this fantastic tour and its amazing rides so well planned by Bike Normandy. We have formed a Face Book page – Bike Normandy Fan Club. It is open to everyone to join and share. Its a great way for us all to keep in touch, share holiday pics and news very easily. Cheers”

Everyone stays in Calais the night before the tour starts where Traci tries snails (much to David’s disgust!) and Barry has a huge mixed grill

“Even though the weather tried at times to sabotage the holiday – it was still a very enjoyable trip. The extra day stay over, made a big difference between a pure biking holiday and a relaxing chill out holiday. The routes were up to your usual highclass standard; fast, flowing, technical and scenic. It was also good to meet up with old friends and also to make new ones. See you soon”

“Another tour to leave us with life long memories of laughter, good riding (pain free knees for Fran for the first time ever), friendship and amazing experiences. We couldn’t have conceived how lovely it would be to see the Rhine in Flames. The braziers along the rivers banks, the red lit houses, churches and castles, the wonderful fireworks as we travelled on the water towards Koblenz, and the awe inspiring finale over the castle there, all made for a memorable evening – and that`s without the meal, wine, music and dancing – thanks Bike Normandy for such a stonking good time! From beginning to end we always feel at home with John and Jen, and dear Rita and John (such quick wit!) The sad start was so well managed and showed again to us all the thorough planning and care that is taken in preparation for everything that happens. We really appreciated the selection of castle visits, the wonderful accommodation, the well timed coffee and lunch stops and, on this tour, Jen`s immaculate riding on such varied roads, which always got us all where we needed to be. Johns talks and guidance greatly appreciated, as always, and we wish him well as he returns to full health again. We are once again inspired to get on the website and see what we can do next – race you all, but hope to see lots of you again some time!

“The Rhine in Flames…Dinner on the boat and a truly spectacular sight as we cruised the river: the banks lit up with fires and the fireworks seemed to be over the sky – finishing with fireworks accompanied by music and a little boogie on the way back. This is the most relaxing tour I’ve been on yet – we stayed in a hotel for 3 nights…absolute bliss. I even got to hang my clothes in the wardrobe! Of course there was an option to go out sightseeing on the bikes each day led by Jen, but for me the retail therapy was calling and I wasn’t disappointed in the cool shops there were to look around, not to mention the coffee shops for the super tasty cakes. For the ladies it was perfect. For those with a sweet tooth it was delicious, and the adrenalin junkies got to go out and ride the twisty roads. I always have fun on a Bike Normandy tour and again would thoroughly recommend this as a good start for those who have never been on a bike tour adventure, or riders, if you wish to impress your pillion as the mileage, hotels and entertainment have been perfectly planned. I would definitely recommend a swim and sauna in the last hotel it just recharges your batteries…oh and try and find the bowling alley!! Maybe challenge Jen to a game, she definitely needs the practice. Ha ha!  [What happened to team spirit then ??? –  only joking we love having you guys on our tours – Jen]

“As “first-timers” to Bike Normandy we didn’t really know exactly what to expect. In fact it was brilliant – fantastic roads, hotels and lovely people to share our experience with on the tour. It was lovely to leave each morning knowing that all coffee breaks, petrol stops & lunch stops were sorted out beforehand and all we had to do was jump on the bike and enjoy the roads/ride! You both work extremely hard to make sure the tour runs with no hitches – mission accomplished! A huge thanks to you both and of course “Parker” in ensuring that our first tour was so enjoyable – (hopefully this will be the first of many).”

I really feel part of the Bike Normandy “family” now, and will continue to return as long as you are doing this. Looking forward to the 4×4 in September, regards”

The organisation, as usual, was up to your very high standards and much appreciated. It was good to meet up again with some old friends and to get to know some new ones. The way in which you dealt with the three bike related problems was excellent, and the tour continued seamlessly while these problems were resolved. I can only say thanks again and look forward to seeing you for the Monte Carlo Tour in September. Kind regards”

“John Jen, just wanted to say that as a newcomer to Bike Normandy I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Picos Tour but I needn’t have worried, the entire trip was perfect from start to finish. Your personal involvement throughout the week and your organisation made all the difference. I met a great bunch of people and had some great riding – so much so that I didn’t want to go back home at the end of the trip!  For me your formula is just right, and it’s easy to see why you have so much repeat business. Many thanks for another exceptional tour of beautiful scenery through France, Belgium and Germany. A great variation of hotels and routes with the some of the best biking roads anyone could imagine. The B500 is pure magic as it twists and turns up and down the heights of the Black Forest. The whole tour was such fantastic fun and and so stress free with so many new experiences and places visited leaving me wanting more…..I would even recommend the bench outside the hotel!!!!!!!!! Myself and the lads are already discussing which tour to book up for next year…..see you soon”

“The tour this year was fantastic. The hotels were of an excellent standard, with the outside benches being unexpectedly comfortable for al fresco sleeping!!  The coffee & lunch stops, particularly the amazing patisserie shops were wonderful. However, the greatest pleasure was the roads…. they were fabulous, as usual. The riding was awesome, with  the B500 being the icing on the cake. Jen did a great job & we would certainly do this tour again. Thank you for another great holiday.”

Dear John and Jen, I would like to thank you both for the superb tour you organised for us to the Black Forest. As usual your hard work and research of the routes and hotels shone through and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Its true to say that if you enjoy a mixture of fast swooping roads as well as more twisty challenging bends then this is the tour to do. The scenery was also fantastic and a special thanks has to go to Jen when she led us to the Rhine Falls in Switzerland for an extra days ride without any mistakes even though she had not done the trip on her own before. I am so glad we made the effort to go and not take the day off because it turned out to be a gorgeous day out. The hotel at Pierrefonds was in such a beautiful location with views of the château that I could have quite happily stayed there. Your tours seem to attract such lovely people and it was a great crowd that we spent the week with, it’s always sad on the final day to split up and go our separate ways. Further thanks have to go to John for keeping the tour going even with the difficulty of his broken leg and to Paul [Parker] for driving the van and to Alan and Jane for doing a great job as back markers. I was going to end there but I think we should also thank Ian and Karen for getting locked out of the hotel and giving us such a good laugh in the morning! Anyway thanks again and we hope to be seeing you again next year for another great holiday”

Apart from:-
  • Bob & Jozina’s BMW being recalled the day before the Tour and them having to follow in a hire car…
  • John Shepherd’s Triumph Trident 900 falling off the sidestand…
  • Lynne’s Honda CB400 breaking down after 100kms (alternator)…
  • Stuart having tyre pressure problems…
  • David & Kate’s accident…
  • Sandra forgetting the entry code and finding herself locked out of the hotel at midnight…

The tour was pretty uneventful !

We had a great time on this tour and hope everyone else did too. Thanks to “Parkerette” for driving John and the luggage throughout the Tour. We hope to see many of you again in the future. Regards to all, John & Jen.

Can I thank you both for a wonderful tour. I think you have exactly the right balance of riding and sightseeing. The roads were interesting, not just blasts down A or N roads. We probably rode through some villages that had never seen motorcycles before! I felt we had ample time to see what we needed to at all of our scheduled stops. All the accommodation was good. I know the hotel in Oradour was somewhat basic, but its proximity to the martyr village made choosing it good sense. The group were all good company and we enjoyed the craic. Tim was excellent. He has the ideal personality to lead a group – friendly, confident and assertive and clearly a very good rider. He coped brilliantly with having to combine reading your route notes with following his satnav…Thanks also to Paul, our ever-suffering back marker…also a really good rider. And to your good selves. Thank you for making the effort to be with us, when you could so  easily have used John’s injury as a reason for staying at home. Clearly, you care for your clients. Many thanks to Jen for the lovely buffet at you house…I’ve certainly been left with some great memories, for which I thank you and everyone on the trip.
Very best wishes for your swift recovery John and continued success in your excellent joint enterprise.”

“Malcolm and I wanted to say what a fantastic time we had in France last week…our trip courtesy of your organisational skills was a very welcome break in our hectic world and far exceeded all of our expectations. The group was a fab mix of people from such different walks of life but we all got on so well and enjoyed each others company. Malcolm is now a great fan of France and so wants to explore more about the culture, it’s history and of course the cuisine!
The WW2 tour was our first long journey together on a motorbike and we will definitely be looking to join you again next year and we will also be doing more riding ourselves…Malcolm and I would both like to say that although you were unable to join us for some of the tour, you were such good hosts and devoted yourselves to ensuring that everyone had a good holiday and gained the maximum from the experience centred around WW2. The overnight stays were a great mix of authentic french charm.  We enjoyed them all in their own way.  We also enjoyed having time to ourselves and also the opportunity to socialize together with the rest of the group. A great balance for us as the only couple.Remember us as first up for Sancerre next year.”

I was seriously impressed by the high standard of all the sights we visited, I hadn’t realised how much effort the French have put in recently. Pegasus Bridge, St Mere Eglise, the gun batteries, Pointe du Hoc, all brilliant. I enjoyed the hotels – all had character and great locations that you never get in out of town Mercure type chain hotels. The riding was brilliant when the sun was shining, grim when it was raining heavily! Everyone without exception was friendly and interesting to talk to, and thanks to John in particular for the battery terminal bolt and fuel..”

“Once again, thanks very much for such a fantastic tour. The roads were brilliant, the views were stunning and the food was superb. I made a lot of new friends on the tour and hope to catch up with them on future tours…the help that you gave me in getting a new brake lever for my bike was very much appreciated. I still don’t know how you manage to keep running such amazing tours, but I hope you continue to do so for many years to come. It would be nice to think others can have the opportunity to have as much fun as I have had over the years. Absolutely brilliant.”

“Monte Carlo or Bust! What an amazing holiday! We enjoyed all of the beautiful hotels in which we stayed which were oozing with French character and in stunning locations. Everything we experienced was well planned with attention to detail. From exciting and varied routes, fuel stops, points of interest and coffee stops. The list is endless. Which gave us a stress-free enjoyable riding holiday. Kath & I have already booked for the Rhine in Flames 2014”

“Just what more can we add to the amazing testimonials on the website???? This was our first experience of a Bike Normandy holiday and will certainly not be the last! John & Jen – you are the most brilliant hosts and go way above anything that is expected of you. We totally felt at home as soon as we joined the group – it was like one big happy family. Everyone made us so welcome and the fun continued from the very start. The well planned out route, together with the marker system allowed us to enjoy the scenery without even having to think where we were going. The authentic French hotels were fabulous with their lovely courtyards and wonderful food. The villages we passed through, especially those we stopped at for coffee, were very well chosen. Dare I say it – after the fourth or fifth most fattening, delicate French fancy cake and lunch stops made up of gorgeous French cheeses & hams – we are more than a little rounded now! And yes John, I will continue to hunt for my bargain jars of pate, Kieron will ALWAYS find room in the paniers for my shopping! Our 25th Wedding Anniversary was topped by sitting on our balcony in Villefranche drinking a gorgeous bottle of bubbly, supplied by John & Jen (such a wonderful thought), and could not have been any nicer. Just cannot say any more, we will definitely be booking our next trip to the Rhine in Flames and look forward to seeing you all again sometime. Once again we would like to thank everyone on this trip for their support and help…you all certainly made it a most memorable holiday. Best wishes”

“Hi, to all, as my first tour EVER with any company, I have to say that I was just simply impressed with the top notch professionalism of John & Jen. The way it was organised, how it ran, the hotels they chose for us were worth staying in for more than one night, as for the routes that were taken on the tour – just breathtaking. The roads you could be riding by yourself for ages and just enjoy it as you want to. The rest of the guests were kind enough to take me under their wing as many were revisiting. John & Jen must be doing something right to have this running for over 10 years and have so many repeat customers. They get to know you, they make an extra effort to do so, they do not pressure you to keep up. I came away from this tour, tired yes, it was a little hectic, but I think that J&J wanted us to get going so we could take our time if we wanted on the roads to our next stop. For me personally I came away from this tour a better rider as many guests had many more years of experience under their belts and would freely give you advice. I came away knowing the limits of myself and my bike. I came away with more confidence, riding more comfortably and with 2134 more miles on my bike than when I started. I do most certainly hope I can join J&J on another tour sometime in the future. I can only say to all, especially John & Jen, for everything they made possible for me to come on this tour as a complete novice, I have no complaints whatsoever. If anyone out there reads this and has not done a tour abroad then look no further. You don’t need to. John & Jen will take you to places that will remain in your memories until you go to bikers’ heaven – let that be long in the future so you can enjoy numerous tours with Bike Normandy. A massive THANK YOU to John & Jen, all my best to you and your future”

“Thanks for a great tour, overall I enjoyed my 12th Bike Normandy experience. The roads & scenery on this tour were brilliant, especially on day three with the superb after lunch sweepers I got to ride “solo”. As usual all good hotels…I was just looking at the photo I took from my room in Villefranche looking across the bay to Cap Ferrat – gorgeous. The last night hotel was so quaint and full of character, one I would definitely like to go back to. It was a long trip and by the end I was getting pretty tired…I still feel that on some days I would like to be at the hotel by afternoon coffee to have a chance to relax before dinner…On balance a good trip, great roads, stunning scenery and above all great company. It was a good group of bikers and I think as a whole one of the most able riding groups I have toured with. Above everything it is you two that makes Bike Normandy, you are such lovely people and most of all you care about your clients, the success of Bike Normandy is as much about you personally as it is about the places you go and the roads to take. Thanks”

“I really enjoyed the holiday, although it was probably a bit too long for me. Some days left me rather out of puff albeit happy after a good day’s riding…I was pretty much all-in on the last part up to Le Mont Dore in the cold & wet; having said that, if we’d been luckier with the weather I would have been full of energy and cracking on down those fabulous roads. But the weather is the weather and we had plenty of nice sunny days as well. On balance I have to say it was a great holiday…Ok, I was worried by the first hotel [tired room] although it was actually very nice and the town looked lovely. The evening meal got the trip off to a great start so I guess that all adds up OK. After that the hotels were all excellent. I particularly enjoyed the last one which had great charm, good food and the room was spot on. The group meals always go well and the “last supper” was good fun. My fellow tourists were a universally pleasant group and good company both on the road, where riding standards were generally high, and socially whenever we stopped. One of the things I really enjoy about a BN holiday is the way a diverse group blends together through shared pleasures. The drop off system works brilliantly, everyone can enjoy their own ride and no-one gets held up or pressured to go faster. All of that doesn’t just happen; full credit to you both, ably assisted by John & Rita, for all the hard work you put into planning and running the tour to make sure everyone has a great time. So there it is, another great Bike Normandy holiday to look back on – Thank you. only 2 more trips and I get a T-shirt!”

“Yet another great bike tour with Bike Normandy…initially my wife was quite apprehensive about riding pillion for 8 days on her first European tour but the result was conclusive…she loved it! Fantastic scenery, brilliant roads, great hotels with superb views, impeccable organisation and management by “Mr & Mrs Bike Normandy” the infamous John & Jen…and finally a big thanks to “Parker” who transported “Yes My Lady” and all our luggage in the Thunderbird rocket ship. See you soon”

“Another excellent and impeccably organised tour. I have been away with John & Jen twice now and have spent three long weekends at their house. If you like riding at your own pace then these are the tours for you as the group spreads out nicely and you can overtake in the middle. If you prefer to gaze at the beautiful scenery then you can happily sit at the back and watch the world go by. Routes are incredibly well planned and marked, always including the best riding roads the area can offer. Particular highlights were the B500 in the Black Forest, the Vosges Mountains and the Ardennes in Belgium. I’m already planning next year’s holiday. Comedy moment was John doing an unintentional dance when leading the ride as a wasp got into his helmet!”

“What a great week we had with Bike Normandy. As organised tour “virgins” we weren’t sure what to expect, but couldn’t have wished for anything better. Everything was…well, fantastic: the organisation, the countries, the routes, the roads, the pace, the scenery, the weather, the accommodation, the food and the company. Even the shuttle was a doddle…Thanks to Gordon & Sue for a great recommendation and hopefully (once the penny jar is full again!) we will see you again soon”

“Hi John & Jen, thanks for another ace trip! Fantastic quaint hotels, stunning routes, good food, good beer, good company, and as ever it was really well organised and well paced. Definitely coming back next year for my 3rd trip. Thanks for being fantastic hosts!”
Simon Bristow (2nd trip), Triumph Daytona 955i
*
“Another great trip from Bike Normandy, well organised (despite Jen’s broken elbow) with some amazing new roads. Great hotels and food and lots of entertaining people (with some very poor jokes). I would give it a neufty-neuf out of a hundred!”

We really enjoyed the welcome into Baden Baden and the view of Merlin’s Castle as we entered the town on the last night was fantastic. Really pleased that Jen was able to join us despite her injury and that Surrey got his bike going. “Parker” was a great addition to the trip. What else is there to say…great roads, great people, great times, we will be back. Thanks very much for an excellent time”

Anyway, here are ours…even without Jen in the saddle to keep you John, on the straight & narrow, you did it again…how do you do it? Terrific roads, terrific hotels…why does not every Brit biker ride with Bike Normandy? Everything is sorted by you two. All you need to do is put petrol in and follow the bike in front. Even the system of marking the junctions is so good, so easy. If you are reading this and have not ridden with John & Jen before, stop reading this and e-mail them. You will NOT be disappointed. The only problem you will have is deciding which trip to go on next”

“It goes without saying that we, the “Birmingham 6″ had a great time. Pete’s accident put a dampener on things until we heard he was OK and going home the next day – from then on we were back on track and enjoying the riding and company to the full. From me personally and being used to organising long and short distance trips, I thought that the routes were great…the selection of hotels and locations was superb…the food at both hotels where we had evening meals was to die for – duck and wild boar are now on the menu! The scenery in the Mosel and Rhine valleys was spectacular and even more so in the fine weather we endured as it did get a bit hot at times! Great to have met you both and experienced one of your tours…many thanks”

“Excellent trip – great roads, superb hotels, nice food and a bunch of nice people. As ever, your care in preparation, the marker system with back-up van, and you guys (including John & Rita) make for a brilliant trip. Thank you – I look forward to booking on another tour”

“We would like to thank you again for an awesome Black Forest Tour. What a great route and a fantastic way to see such a beautiful part of the world. Having the van with us carrying luggage really allowed us to ride the bikes unhindered on great roads. A big thanks to John & Rita too for extra back-up. A few weeks have passed and we are still thinking of the lovely hotels, riding, people and adventure that was The Black Forest Tour. Many thanks”

“Many thanks for another great week, thoroughly enjoyed the tour again and knackered when I got home. The rides through the Ardennes, Black Forest and the Vosges Mountains were the high points for me, the scenery was beautiful (perhaps I should have taken a few more photos rather than charging on!) The accommodation was very comfortable and the food was good, there were some very pleasant balmy evening meals outside which is always a treat. I thought the organisation was slick even when the weather threw in some googlies – heaven that was hot! Thanks again”

I will leave the others to talk about the great roads, organisation, company etc. but what is harder to describe is the “added value” that going with you brings. It makes a real difference and puts everybody’s minds into “holiday mode”. We will be back”

“Many thanks for a great trip to the Rouen Armada – good weather, fantastic group of people and a wonderful itinerary of places visited – never realised Rouen had so much to offer after always travelling through it. Highlights were obviously the “Tall Ships” but for us it was dinner the first night in France’s oldest Auberge – we have been to many places to eat but this was magnificent with brilliant surroundings, food and staff who made the place something very special.
Once again many thanks for a great few days away and see you on the next one”

“Another lovely holiday, with Bike Normandy,
Lots of roads to explore, and beautiful places to see.

John & Jen our guides, first class in every way,
Even arranged sunshine, nearly every day!

Superb restaurants, Monet’s garden was the best,
Only thing I had to do, was help John with his vest!

The orange reflective one, he wears to lead the pack,
With Jen keeping an eye out, for straddlers at the back.

Nigel’s looking forward to the four by four,

We had a great time, as always. Very best wishes”

“Great pics and comments, we have many happy memories – but truth be told – hotels don’t beat your wonderful hospitality at le Champ Masse. There were so many high points, not least historic Rouen and the tall ships, but dinner at La Couronne and Giverny were extra special. We have a soft spot for Honfleur and eating crepes with you on the last day. The group gelled quickly and the high standing of riding set by you and the “old hands” was infectious and reassuring for the newcomers. Thank you both for making it a truly relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Carol was fulsome in her comments about how much she appreciated the itinerary and daily mileage. It was in all respects an outstanding tour. Best Wishes”
